He has been hailed as a Grandmaster of Wuxia and the Zen Master of filmmaking. Ang Lee has paid homage to him in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) while Tsui Hark has professed that everything he knows about Wuxia was learnt from him and his work. His Wuxia films have broken box office records in Hong Kong. He introduced Wuxia cinema to international audiences, elevating the genre to being recognized as an art form and winning accolades from international film festivals such as Cannes.
He is King Hu. International Film Guide has regarded him as “Among the world’s Top 5 Filmmakers in 1978’, while respected 1970’s director Chang Cheh, also a Wuxia luminary himself, has regarded King Hu as the ‘Best Wuxia Director’. Find out more as we convene a panel consisting of experts, colleagues and friends of King Hu to talk about the man, his stories and the legacy of his Wuxia Classics.
